Bad sleeping has negative consequences in terms of personal efficiency and quality of life, besides being potentially associated with diseases. In the World Sleep Day, March 14 th , a team of clinical professionals from the Hospital da Misericórdia de Évora will be at the Évora Plaza shopping center , carrying out free sleep apnea screenings, open to the general population. The latest scientific knowledge indicates that there is a correlation between sleep disorders and certain diseases. The most common is obstructive sleep apnea, a respiratory disease that does not choose ages and may entail severe cardiovascular diseases. Some symptoms are more frequent - namely snoring, choking episodes during sleep, waking up tired and feeling sleepy during the day. But less specific complaints, such as fatigue, difficulty concentrating, memory disturbances, insomnia, or mood disorders, may be related with obstructive sleep apnea. Knowing the signs that could raise the suspicion of sleep apnea, being alert and not underestimating it enables you to seek specialized medical care in time and get efficient responses concerning the diagnosis and treatment of sleep apnea. The World Sleep Day was created in 2008 by the north American organization World Sleep Society and is celebrated on the Friday before the spring equinox. In 2025, the theme is “Make sleep health a priority” . Remember: sleeping well promotes a healthy life. If you feel that your sleep is poor, take the screening. Date and time: March 14, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Place: Évora Plaza
